Electric Cars are fast becoming a more desirable choice in keeping you mobile– Whether it’s a personal or business investment the benefits of joining the electric revolution are now more prevalent than ever.
Benefits of Joining the Electric Revolution
Reduced Running Costs
Electric vehicles have significantly lower running costs when compared to petrol or diesel equivalents.
The British Vehicle and Rental Association has calculated that depending on when and how an electric vehicle is charged it will cost 2–4p per mile. This compares to 10–14p per mile for an equivalent petrol or diesel vehicle. Therefore on average the fuel costs based on an annual mileage of 10,000 would be:
Petrol/diesel – £1,200 (based on 12p per mile)
Electric vehicle – £300 (based on 3p per mile)
No Car Tax
Sales and After Care
Electric Vehicles have very few moving parts therefore they require very little maintenance. This is a considerable cost saving, especially as the car gets older.
Plug–In Car Grant
To encourage people to invest and use electric cars, the UK government is offering grants of up to £5,000 towards the purchase of an electric vehicle. This is a great incentive for motorists,
especially if they are concerned about the higher initial costs of an electric car.
Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) Home/Work Charge Point Grant
From the 1st of September 2014, electric vehicle owners can avail of a grant for the supply and installation of a smart home charging point from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
Electric vehicle owners will order their charge point from a list of accredited suppliers who will then install the charge point. After installation and commissioning, the charge point supplier will re–claim the grant and OLEV will reimburse the supplier with the cost.
The maximum limit of grant–funding is £900 and if the cost exceeds this limit, it will need to be paid by the customer.
Convenient Charging
The most convenient way to charge your electric vehicle is at home. By charging overnight, electric vehicle owners do not have to go anywhere to charge and can benefit from lower night time tariffs. E–car drivers will also be able to use comprehensive public charging infrastructure that is now in place throughout Northern Ireland.
Electric vehicles have no tail pipe carbon emissions therefore they are exempt from car tax (also known as vehicle excise duty).
There are 334 charge points now available, with more coming soon.
